Learning outcomes

At the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Identify and distinguish between the Moral/Religious Model, Medical Model, and Social Model of disability, highlighting their historical contexts and societal impacts.
  • Critically analyse how societal structures and attitudes contribute to the creation of barriers for individuals with impairments.
  • Explain the key principles of the Social Model of Disability and its implications for promoting accessibility, equality, and inclusion.
  • Recognise different types of barriers (e.g., attitudinal, environmental, institutional, and communication barriers) that prevent full participation of individuals with impairments in society.
